Towers of power
"Toren" (as opposed to tor), however, DOES refer to a tower in Dutch as a singular noun:
This "pigeon tower" (duiventoren) in Dijkspark Amsterdam is made of oyster mushroom mycelium left over from commercial production and is part of an experimental environmental project spearheaded by artist and architect Arne Hendriks. In the background you can see the facade of the Sluisdeurenloods, a reconstructed wooden building that was originally used for the production of lock gates in the late 1880s. It was moved to its present location in 1957 and is currently administered by the multi / cross-disciplinary arts organization Mediamatic.
Finally, as long as I'm on the subject of ligneous landscape features, "bos" (the Dutch word for forest) bears obvious similarity to "bosque" in both Spanish and English!
